The ACUC
is the Chancellor's advisory committee responsible for oversight and evaluation
of the campus's overall animal care and use program, as described in federal
regulations, the National Research Council's Guide for the Care and
Use of Laboratory Animals and the Public Health Service's Policy
on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. Its functions include
evaluation of programs and development of campus
guidelines and policies
; inspection of animal facilities and animal-study areas; submission of
reports to responsible institutional officials; review of proposed uses
of animals in research, testing, or education; and receipt and review
of concerns involving the care and use of animals by faculty members.
Any faculty member wishing to use live vertebrate animals in research
or teaching must first submit a Master Animal Use Protocol Form for ACUC
approval. All animal use forms and instructions,
monthly submission deadlines and other useful
information can be found on this website.
